Be Italian!

Sofia Loren, Anna Magnani, Silvana Mangano ... Italian women of the 50 were made of another pasta. That macerated by the Mediterranean sun and unspoiled walls lime. Then the curves were a blessed virtue and strength, and race a precondition.
Since then much has changed the standards of beauty, not always for the better. Hence, the design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have decided to claim the legacy and powerful female equal of those great divas.
In his collection spring-summer 2011 the curves are sculpted to blow lace, crocheted or embroidered Chantilly. The perfect white reflects the infinite light of these women and gold accessories multiplies.

Imported Blog: Black Super Models

Hey folks!

I have just imported some older blog content from a different blog I run called Black Super Models. Most of the posts date back to 2007 and the reason behind the blog was to draw attention to the SHORTAGE of black supermodels. Sure there is a few out there, but I wanted to draw attention to the fact that there is no shortage of African models out there worthy of being paid more for what they do.

Amongst the posts imported are collections of photos of:

Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell (obvious choices because they're more well known)

Tyson Beckford (a male supermodel you will probably recognize)

Ajuma Nasenyana (much less well known, but no less worthy)

See my post on Black Supermodels being Left Behind.

I will add more to this post later, I am off to the beach now...

The Royal Wedding: Live from Times Square NYC

Well darlings, my alarm went off quite early this morning but it was totally worth it, as I got to watch The Royal Wedding of William and Catherine, Live from Times Square NYC!! Not usually a morning person, it did take some thought before deciding that getting to Times Square at 5am would be worth it, but after all it has been 29 years since the last royal wedding (and I did not get to see that one). After months of designer speculation on Women's Wear Daily, I was excited to see that Alexander McQueen (my favorite) was the chosen designer for the royal wedding gown!

I watched the royal wedding, live in Times Square NYC in the VIP tent of TLC Network! Full of English tea, scones, and beautiful modern Brit decor, the VIP tent was a nice atmosphere to view the royal wedding for such an early time in the morning.

The dress, designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, was reminiscent of Grace Kelly's wedding dress when she became Princess Grace of Monaco. Although the custom lace design remained very reminiscent of McQueen's signature prints, the dress was most definitely toned down from the normal avant-garde look of the line, but I believe this had a lot to do with Kate's simplistic, classic style.

My favorite moment of the royal wedding was when Kate began walking down the aisle and you can see Prince Harry take a peak of her and tell Prince William how she looks. It was such an intimate brotherly moment that was so nice to witness.

"Be who God meant you to be and
you will set the world on fire."
- St. Catherine of Sienna

After the royal wedding, TLC's Say Yes to the Dress performed 3 live weddings as well as a fashion show with the past brides of the show in Times Square. Oh and the lovely Colbie Caillat performed! It was certainly a memorable way to experience the royal wedding. And now my dears, this fashionista is off to catch up on some zzz's, enjoy your royally enchanted day!

Congratulations to
Prince William and Princess Catherine!

Links a la Mode

More than Meets the Eye

Edited by Fajr Muhammad at Stylish Thought

When  you visit a fashion blog you often see a stylish blogger posing in a  perfectly, put together outfit with gorgeous scenery. What you don't see  is the work that goes into curating and maintaining a fashion blog. This  week the theme across IFB was outfit posts: what deems an outfit  worthy, what goes into creating a stunning visual post and ultimately  the comments (some not so nice) that we receive as style bloggers.  Ultimately, blogging is a way to express our love for fashion and  personal style but as this week's links can attest to, there is much more  to fashion blogging than meets the eye.
