Britney performs in Orlando

Britney Spears continued her "comeback" tour this weekend with a sold out show in Orlando on Saturday night. While the crowd chanted her name, Spears took the stage for the same 14-minute set she performed a few weeks ago in three California shows - though the popstar encountered a few technical glitches this time. The background track skipped, forcing Spears to improvise her lip-synching routine by turning her face away from the audience until the song got back on track. "I love you, Orlando," she told the crowd at the end of her set. "Thank you so much for being here. You're awesome. I love you!" Spears is scheduled for a second Florida show on Sunday night in Miami. Does anyone else wonder what the point of these 15-minute lip-synching sessions is?

Britney Spears has updated her official website with a new photo and message that reads:

"The reason for this letter is to let everyone know that their prayers have truly helped me. I am so blessed that you care enough about me to be concerned and will continue to live in this brighter state with all of you by my side during this trying time. Not a happy Mother's Day for Britney and her mom

Relations between Britney Spears and her mom are reportedly becoming increasingly strained - so much so that the popstar refused to visit her in hospital on Mother's Day. "Britney has cut off all communication with her mom," a source told the National Enquirer. "She's gone from calling Lynne ten times a day to flat-out refusing to speak to her." Lynne Spears was hospitalized when a bad flu developed into pneumonia. Other tabs are also reporting the story. "Britney says her mom betrayed her and she refuses to get over it," says the source. "When she was told to give her mom a call, Britney said, 'I'm busy, I have my own kids now.'"

Britney's buzz cut is "model" material, says a dancer

The question on everyone's minds of late has surely been...what's going on under Britney Spears's wigs?? Well, according to one of her backup dancers, the popstar is rocking a pretty hot buzz cut. "She looks so good she should model," the dancer told a Vegas paper, adding that Spears has been rehearsing two new songs, describing them as "amazing." After a series of short sets at House of Blues venues in California and Las Vegas last week, her rep is keeping quiet about whether Spears has any more shows coming up soon. Pussycat Dolls Robin Antin caught the popstar dancing last week, and says, "I'm just so happy for her right now. She's been working really hard. She choreographed all of those shows herself. She's such a talented girl."

Oops, she did it again

Britney Spears completed her three-show comeback "tour" last night with an eleven-minute show at the House of Blues in Hollywood, with fellow crotch-flashing starlet Lindsay Lohan in the crowd. The following blog was posted on the online community ohnotheydidnt describing the show:

"It was amazing to be SOOO close to her!! her wig was shorter than her other two HOB gigs, and it looked cute. She lip-synched, obviously again. She seemed REALLY vacant at the beginning of her performance, but as she continued she cracked smiles here and there which really got the crowd going wild. She kept staring up at the balcony VERY intently during a lot of her performance, which was kind if wierd [sic] and it made us keep looking back up at the balcony to see what she was looking at...it was a little distracting! People were saying that sean p. was up there with his nanny...but I don't know that for a fact...just what I heard. I really didn't like britney's dancers...they were annoying for some reason, and they totally botched the part where they bring a guy up on stage!!! They didn't bring the guy up fast enough, and they had to improvise...so some guy who looked offical [sic] and who was back stage just ran up and sat in the chair and played along...but that was kinda lame. Overall, she looked great and it was amazing just to get to be there to see it!!! The audience was going CRAZY for her!! People literally flew in from Florida and various other places.....that's just crazy!!!"

Britney's aunt opens up

Britney Spears's aunt spoke to Inside Edition about her famous niece and their brewing family drama. "The family felt very disappointed in the way she was acting," the popstar's aunt says of the Toxic singer's pre-rehab behavior. And of her head shaving? "[It] was a rebellion against everybody. She was saying I'm not the pop princess you think I am, now leave me alone." Spears's aunt is confident that any family issues will be resolved soon. "If there is a family feud it won't last long. She and her mom are close," she says.

Britney lip-syncs through second show

Britney Spears took to the stage at the House of Blues in Anaheim last night as promised. Spears performed the same twelve-minute lip-syncing routine from her brief gig on Tuesday night, although security was much tighter last night. It took two hours for the crowd to get through metal detectors and many show-goers had their cell phone seized in reaction to the pics and videos that surfaced on the internet from the previous night's show. "It was short, it was good. She looked good, she did her thing," said a fan. But another reviewer said, "She was a little off, a little slower than her dancers. If I hadn't heard about last night I would probably be disappointed."

Britney takes the stage

Britney Spears took to the stage for the first time in three years last night in San Diego. The set was brief - fourteen minutes in total - but featured costume changes, Pussycat Dolls-style backup dancers and light and smoke effect. Spears didn't test out any of her new material on the crowd, and instead lip-synced along to Baby One More Time, Do Somethin', I'm a Slave 4 U, Breathe on Me and Toxic. The popstar has another performance scheduled for tonight at the House of Blues in Anaheim and tomorrow at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip.

Things seem to be heating up between Britney Spears and her rehab beau, musician Howie Day. "Britney really likes him," says a source. "He gets her." The couple hit Hollywood hotspots Bridge and Teddy's together on Saturday night before having a sleepover at Spears's Beverly Hills home. "He's a good person," Day's uncle tells Us mag. Britney's secret gig canceled

Britney Spears's secret comeback gig has been postponed. The singer had been working hard for a gig at Forty Deuce in LA last Wednesday, but canceled at the last minute. "She wants to get back to performing on a small scale before she gets back in front of a big crowd," says a source of Spears's choice of venue for the show. Details are not known about the cause of the cancellation, but insiders speculate it was management-related, and that someone decided the popstar wasn't quite ready. Britney Spears was stopped by police on Friday night on Sunset Boulevard. "She was pulled over for speeding," a Beverly Hills police sergeant confirmed. "She was warned about her speed and let go. She was not cited." Spears has been working hard on her comeback album, with frequent visits to the Millennium Dance Complex in LA and trips to the studio to work with producer (and brief fling) JR Rotem. "Everyone talked about how happy she looked to be back in the studio," says a source. "She came in focused from the start. She's always been a pro when it comes to her music."

Britney planning three live shows next week

It turns out Britney Spears has been working overtime on her body for good reason: the popstar is reportedly doing three shows next week. "Britney will be playing the House of Blues in San Diego on May 1st, Anaheim on May 2nd, as well as the House of Blues on Sunset Strip on May 3rd. She is going under the band name The M+M's," says a message posted on breatheheavy.com. In other Spears news, reports are circulating that the singer plans to write a tell-all autobiography, claiming ex-husband Kevin Federline nearly drove her to suicide. Publishers are scrambling for the rights to the book, which is tipped to drop another $10 million into Spears's bank account.

Will Joe Simpson be Brit's new manager?

According to an inside source, Jessica Simpson's dad Joe is considering managing Britney Spears's career now that Spears has fired on-again/off-again manager Larry Rudolph. Simpson, who has managed the careers of both of his daughters, reportedly tried to set up a meeting with Spears over the weekend, although Jessica's rep denies it. Spears's rep has not commented.

Britney Spears is holding a fantasy photo contest via her online fan club as a promotion for her new perfume, Midnight Fantasy. Spears is contacting club members through email lists and asking them to "sneak up on their friends and photograph them." To enter the contest, fans can submit photos to win a video iPod signed by the popstar. "Share what happens to you when the clock strikes 12... Where are you? Who is with you? Pay attention to yourself - what are you doing? How do you feel? Savor every last detail and when you think you have it down, recreate that perfect moment and capture it as best you can in a digital photograph. A bag reportedly once owned by Britney Spears is for sale on eBay. The listing has the following in its description: "This auction is for a stylish Marc Jacobs purse that was owned by Britney Spears. yes, Britney Spears owned and used this purse. The purse was original [sic] auctioned off four months ago by her sister Jamie Lynn to help raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Britney and her dad begin public battle

Proving that his Hollywood family is just as screwed up as the next, Britney Spears's dad Jamie released a statement to the New York Post's PageSix yesterday admonishing his daughter and showing support for her manager Larry Rudolph. "When Larry Rudolph talked Britney into going into rehab, he was doing what her mother, father and team of professionals with over 100 years of experience knew needed to be done," Spears Sr. writes. "She was out of control. Larry was the one chosen by the team to roll up his sleeves and deliver the message, to help save her life... The Spears family would like to publicly apologize to Larry for our daughter's statements about him over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, she blames him and her family for where she is at today with her kids and career. Larry has always been there for Britney. For this, we will forever be grateful to him." In response, Britney Spears told PageSix via her rep, "I am praying for my father. We have never had a good relationship. It's sad that all the men that have been in my life do not know how to accept a real woman's love. I am concentrating on my work and my life right now." A friend of the popstar contends that Spears "had no drugs in her system when she was admitted to Promises - they [tested her] and there was nothing. She was embarrassed she had to go in there when she knew she was suffering from postpartum depression, not a drug or alcohol problem." And as far as Spears shaving her head, the friend insists, "Britney's aunt had just died of cancer. She was feeling very guilty because she hadn't been there with her, she was overwhelmingly depressed and she shaved her head in solidarity." A source close to Larry Rudolph, who was allegedly fired by the popstar last week, says, "Britney obviously has a lot of issues... Larry's trying to lay low and letting her act out, but...he doesn't want to see her wind up like Anna Nicole Smith. He won't get into a public fight with her - yet. This is about saving her from herself."
