Katie endears herself to coworkers

Katie Holmes is endearing herself to the cast and crew of Mad Money by making sure all 200 of them are well fed. On Friday, for the third week in a row, Holmes brought in a special treat for her coworkers in Shreveport, Louisiana. "We got cupcakes," said a cast member. "They were good, too." On April 27, Mrs. Cruise brought in 300 ice cream cones, and the next week it was pizza flown in from Chicago. "It was a lot of pizza," said another coworker. "We had veggie, sausage, pepperoni. It was good pizza." Holmes's husband Tom Cruise has also been making the rounds on set, introducing one-year-old daughter Suri to cast and crew. "They all truly could not have looked happier," says a source, who described Suri as "just as happy as could be." "They were just like any other family in the South."

The estate boasts two satellite buildings to accompany the main house, which the previous owner used as a gym and screening room. Tom plunks down $35 mil for new house

Tom Cruise has bought a seven-bedroom Beverly Hills estate for an estimated $35 million. According to insiders, the 70-year-old home was not actually up for sale when the War of the Worlds star made his offer. The new pad will replace the Beverly Hills home Cruise has been renting for the past four years, and will house wife Katie Holmes, children Suri, Connor, and Isabella, as well as his sister and her family and his mom.

Jenna Elfman defends TomKat

Scientologist actress Jenna Elfman is defending Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's relationship amid reports that the couple's five-month marriage is not a happy one. "Honestly, they're happy," says the pregnant actress. "They have a great life and they love each other. For some reason, the media cannot experience that. They must put in things other than the simplicity of it." Elfman says recent tabloid stories that Cruise controls Holmes and forced her into Scientology are definitely false. "It's totally irrelevant, because it's so absolutely not that," she says. "It's hard to give a detailed explanation on something that simple. Honestly, do any of you have a great boyfriend or girlfriend? It's not a big deal, right? You have fun hanging out, and you like talking and sharing your ideas. It's exciting. That's their relationship."

TomKat host Scientology fundraiser

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes rolled into NYC last night to host a $6,250-a-head fundraiser for his controversial 9/11 detoxification program. Cruise is co-founder of the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, based (of course) on principles of Scientology. The free treatment involves large doses of vitamins, dietary changes and regular trips to the sauna. Despite NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg's denouncement of the program as "not science" on Wednesday, Cruise received plenty of approval for the project. "He said how grateful he was to everyone for supporting the project," the president of NYC's paramedics and EMT union said of Cruise. "He took time out to speak to every person. It took him an hour to get through the hallway. He was talking to everyone. It was genuine, nothing phony about it."

Happy birthday, Suri Cruise! The adorable celebrity offspring of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes turns one today. Reps for the couple would not release details of Suri's birthday celebrations, but she is believed joining mom in Shreveport, Louisiana, where Holmes is filming Mad Money with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton.

Katie gets back to work

Katie Holmes is settling in nicely in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she is scheduled to begin filming Mad Money today. Holmes dropped in to Target on Friday afternoon, and told a local paper, "I met some really great people, and it was nice. They did recognize me, and it was a pleasure meeting them. We had nice chats about kids, and it was lovely." In an group interview about her new film, Holmes told the paper, "I'm pumped. I loved it from the second I read it. I love interesting female characters, and this is full of them... She's funny, she's smart and just a little bit misunderstood," Mrs. Cruise said of her character. "She's involved in this crime, but she's sort of delighted to just be a part of something and have girlfriends for the first time. She's a type of person who creates a happier environment than she's actually in... I like that about her. She's a free spirit." Holmes will be joined in Shreveport by her husband Tom Cruise and daughter Suri (who turns one later this week). "It's another project we're going to handle together, and that's part of the fun," the Dawson's Creek alum said.

BFFs Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham are reportedly going ahead with plans to launch a line of children's clothing. "Katie drew sketches of a dress she wanted Suri to wear on her birthday, and they discussed it over a glass of wine," says a source close to Beckham. The pair are hoping to snag a few tips from fellow celeb designer Gwen Stefani, adds the source. Holmes's rep denies the plan, but the friend insists, "they've been talking about it for months." An employee at LA's International Silk and Woolens says Mrs. Cruise is a regular, revealing, "Katie comes in all the time. She makes pillows, curtains and all kinds of decorations for her home."

Gee, uh...Katie Holmes? Though the author doesn't say the story is intentionally based on Holmes, she does admit the characters and situations are based on real people. Holmes herself is reportedly disturbed by the story. "Someone gave her a copy last weekend, and she's been reading it nonstop ever since," said a friend of Mrs. Cruise. "She's already having problems with Tom, and now she feels like her private life has been exposed. She's really upset." Whatever the deal is, what a fantastic marketing plot for the author. Oprah's book club? Who needs it.

• Katie Holmes and nearly-one-year-old Suri was seen at Silvercup Studios in Astoria last Tuesday. "There are a lot of pilots filming there," says a spy, "so maybe they have a cameo? While Katie was filming, her manny watched the baby."
